EZEQUIEL MABOTE
Ezequiel grew up in an arts neighbourhood in Maputo,Mozambique. He was influences by the old masters in Maputo where he was taught to carve and paint textile batiks. He then took art lessons at school. He moved to South Africa in 1998 where he found the BAT Centre. In 1999 he was introduced to printmaking. He makes prints in series of ten with a mix of colours. The paintings are rare because he broke the rules in using colours. He uses the right paper, asset free and long lasting paint. It is oil based ink and the colours won’t fade. The paint is so thick it takes a long time to dry, colour by colour. It takes about a week to finish a painting, bringing on one colour a day. His artwork is very special and the colours are very bright. Ezequiel is very proud of his work.
